More Boot Camp Drills, part II.

Drill #2 from Cathy Zielske (Big Picture Boot Camp): Single Font Pages, as in, use the same font, any font, throughout the layout, from title to journaling, and even the date. This can give layouts a “timeless feel”, making them look “smart and chic”, according to Cathy, and to me, simple and clean. I used PT Sans, a font I got free when I downloaded the template from Designer Digitals (the link was included in the how-to PDF).

Drill #2

I like the grids Cathy uses, and those two adjectives I used above; clean and simple. Today, that’s just what I wanted, so I can just focus on the photos and the story. Thanks for the help, Cathy!

Thanks for coming by! Until next time….

Day 25: Goodbye.

Just a little quickie; I’m running late, but I just finished day my layout for day 25. The prompt is to scraplift ourselves, so I chose to do another version of a layout I did for the Design Challenge class (July 17). I use the Moirai Compositor in Photoshop, and it’s a breeze to do. My boss left her job recently, so I scrapped about that (I was the photographer at the party).

One more layout to complete the Mother LOAD. Tomorrow! [whew!]

Day 21: Favorite Skill

Just a quick note for today; it’s the 21st, and today’s prompt is to use a shaped photo (non-square or rectangle). I’m using a template by Cathy Zielske, from Designer Digitals that I made hybrid.

As simple as this looks, I have never had a more difficult time getting a layout done!! I kid you not, I’m not really happy with the way it turned out, but after much frustration, I finally decided enough! It’s done. Thanks for stopping by!

Day 20: That Face

Day 20 is here, and today’s prompt in The Mother LOAD class is to use a photo showing emotion. One week a while back, we were instructed to photograph someone showing some kind of emotion, and when I asked my daughter to help me with this, the photo you see on the layout is what I got! Bless her heart!

Scraplifted from Mandie Pierce; supplies from Studio Calico.

What an 11-year-old. The kid has a way of making me laugh, I’ll tell ya! See you tomorrow!

Day 17: You Send Me!

Being that it’s Saturday, our prompt for today at The Mother LOAD was to do whatever we want! It’s a free-for-all! Yippee; I’ve been wanting to use my October Afternoon Rocket Age supplies. But since I don’t have a son to scrap, I borrowed my nephew (he’s so photogenic!) to use with the male-oriented product. Here’s my layout:

All supplies by October Afternoon.

And some more news: more items are now available in my Etsy shop, Retrospect! See you tomorrow!

Day 12: Jimmy

Today is “Mother-May-I” Monday, the 12th day in my Mother LOAD adventures. Our prompt for today was to use a bad photo; usually a no-no, but today, “Mother” gives us permission! I’m thrilled because I have plenty of photos that have come out too blurry to use, which is always a huge disappointment. Problems with exposure or color are always easily correctable, but blurriness really makes me mad because I cannot really correct it! Some photos I have would be really awesome if it weren’t for that darn blur factor, so being asked to use one today because it’s blurry or otherwise no good, made my day.

[The face is blacked out on this image so the HIPAA police cannot arrest me...the real layout does not have it.]

See you tomorrow!

Day 10: Real Beauty

It’s day 10 in The Mother LOAD, and today’s prompt is to use a black and white photo, and do anything we want. I chose one of my brother’s photos from his Flickr gallery because he takes such awesome photos, many of which are black and white.

She’s not just a pretty face. She’s warm and gracious, intelligent and kind. I’m lucky to call her my sister-in-law.

My brother took the photo (which looks better in person), of Maile, my sister-in-law, and I just love it. I truly admire her, and I consider her the epitome of what is true and real beauty.

Speaking of beautiful, I saw “The Help” this afternoon, and I simply loved it. Wonderful movie that I highly recommend! I have to work tomorrow, but I’ll be back in the evening for day 11.

Day 8: Let’s Go!

It’s day 8 in The Mother LOAD , and it’s Thursday, which means it’s Thoughtful Thursday in which we dig a little deeper into ourselves and our layouts and focus on our journaling. Today’s prompt was to talk about what we need or want. I must say that I feel ever so grateful to be able to acknowledge that I really don’t need anything. Thinking about our country, our economic situation, or especially the entire world’s problems makes me stop and count my blessings when I remember how lucky I am.

Here is my layout for today.

I almost feel guilty when I read my journaling and think of how poorly people in Libya, or Somalia, for example, are doing. I want for nothing, and I am thankful.

See you tomorrow.

Days 6 & 7.

Last night, it was after 10 pm before I finished my MotherLOAD day 6 layout, so I didn’t post it. Today, you get that one, and number 7.

Day 6: Take A Picture Tuesday. Self-portrait time! Eek!

At 45

Trying something new, I used way more embellishments than I am comfortable with (with the exception being a class tutorial where I am following instructions, i.e., it’s someone else’s design). The jury is out on whether I like this layout or not.

Day 7: Way Back Wednesday. We’re using old supplies, and old-school design. Think 1990′s, but if we can make it look fresh and new, we get extra credit points (not really). I don’t know how to make old supplies look fresh and new, so I scrapped like it’s 1999 (bah-dump-dump…).

World Traveller

Uh, no, thank you.The jury didn’t have to deliberate long to announce the verdict guilty of poor taste.

Well, I’m learning. It’s good to think outside the box; it’s good to step out of your comfort zone now and then; it’s good to try new things. But then, sometimes you learn that there’s a reason why you do things the way you do (it works), and that comfort zone inside the box is there for your own good. We’ll see what tomorrow brings!!

Day 4: Sweet Love

It’s simple Sunday. I like simple. Simple’s the word!

That’s an Instagram photo. Isn’t Instagram great?

Something I discovered yesterday that I didn’t mention (because I knew I would do it here  ;-) is a new place for scrapbook/art/craft inspiration: Studio Calico‘s Pinterest boards. I love Pinterest, and I pin there occasionally and do look around, but something on Twitter caught my eye and it was a link to one of Studio Calico‘s boards on Pinterest…and my mouth dropped open in amazement! It is filled to the gills with incredible talent, art, crafts, ideas, everything! I now have it bookmarked on my desktop to check out any time I need an idea or two. Check it out and be prepared to be amazed yourself!
